Two Mafia fugitives arrested near Naples
Naples — Two fugitives with links to the Mafia were arrested by Italian police on Thursday night.
Nicola Tavoletta, 28, and Vincenzo Di Fraia, 25, are believed to be linked to the Casalesi clan, which is part of the Neopolitan Mafia known as the Camorra, located in the southern Campania region.
Three days ago a Naples court issued 32 arrest warrants and police detained 30 suspected members of the Camorra on charges including murder, extortion, illegal possession of firearms and receiving stolen goods.
The two fugitives were arrested on Thursday night when police burst into the apartment where they were hiding. They have been accused of murder, attempted murder and extortion.
Among those arrested earlier this week was Paolo Schiavone, nephew of the jailed boss of the Camorra’s powerful Casalesi clan, Francesco ‘Sandokan’ Schiavone.
An Italian appeals court earlier this month upheld life sentences given to Schiavone and 15 other Camorra members.
