Two brothers killed near Palermo, one injured
Palermo - Two brothers were killed this morning just after seven in Partinico, 35km from Palermo in what appears a mafia attack.
Another person was injured but not seriously.
The victims, Giuseppe and Gianpaolo Riina, 32 and 38, were sons of a constructor, Salvatore Riina, killed by the mafia ten years ago in Partinico in the same street (Via Merlo) where the sons were killed this morning.
The Riina brothers had left their house to go to work in the construction company of some relatives when they were shot with automatic weapons.
They tried to get away, but didn’t get further than Piazza Santa Caterina.
Fulvio Giordano, 24, was injured, he was taken to the Partinico Hospital.
The assistant prosecutor of the Local Anti-Mafia Investigation Department of Palermo, Michele Prestipino, is coordinating the investigation.

Two brothers killed in suspected Sicilian Mafia hit
Two brothers - sons of a namesake of jailed Mafia godfather Salvatore (Toto) Riina - were shot dead Tuesday in a suspected Mafia killing in Partinico, Sicily, news reports said. Giuseppe and Giancarlo Riina were gunned down as they left a bar in a Partinico square at around 7 a.m., the ANSA news agency said.
A third man, Fulvio Giordano, was wounded in the attack, the report said. His condition was described as not serious.
The brothers died not far from where their father, Salvatore - no relation to mafia don Toto Riina - was himself killed in a 1998 Mafia attack in Partinico, a small town some 30 kilometres from Sicily’s capital, Palermo.
The Riina brothers were active in the local building industry and Giordano was described by ANSA as their business associate.
“The situation in Partinico’s Mafia establishment is extremely volatile,” anti-Mafia prosecutor Francesco Del Bene said in relation to Tuesday’s killings and the recent arrests of local top mobsters.
Mafia boss Toto Riina, who, as head of the Corleonesi clan, rose to become Sicily’s most powerful godfather, was arrested in 1993 and is serving multiple life sentences for murder.
