(CBC News) Nicolo (Nick) Rizzuto, a reputed boss of Montreal’s Mafia, has been in hospital for about 10 days after he experienced chest pains.

According to the Canadian Press, Rizzuto checked into the Montreal Jewish General Hospital under the watch of two police officers and a security guard.

The 83-year-old was arrested last Nov. 22 at his Laval home during police raids against suspected members of Montreal’s underworld.

He had been held in custody at the Bordeaux detention centre in Montreal’s Cartierville borough.

The hospital refused to release any details about Rizzuto’s condition. He’s being treated in a private room on the third floor.

His son Vito, the presumed former Montreal Mafia godfather, is in a United States prison waiting for his trial on charges related to a 1982 murder in New York City.
