Police arrest 50 Mafia members
Naples — Italian police on Friday arrested 50 members of the Cava clan, which is allegedly linked to the Mafia organisation known as the Camorra, in the southern Campania region.
The detainees are reportedly active Mafia members in the area known as Pago del Vallo di Lauro in the province of Avellino.
Among those arrested is the boss of the Cava clan, Biagio Cava, who is accused of Mafia association and murder.
During the operation police seized assets totalling 50 million euros, as well as tens of thousands of euros in cash from several houses.
For over thirty years, two Mafia families, the Cavas and the Grazianos, have waged a violent campaign against each other for control of the area.
Italy’s four main criminal organisations are the Sicilian Mafia, the Camorra in Naples and the surrounding Campania region, the ‘Ndrangheta in the southern region of Calabria, and the Sacra Corona Unita in the southern Puglia region.
