“Mafia Cop” Claims Innocence In Letter To Associated Press

Published by at 8:19 am under USA

One of the two so-called “mafia cops” sent a letter from his jail cell Friday claiming his innocence.

Former NYPD Detective Louis Eppolito sent a two-page letter to The Associated Press from a federal jail in Brooklyn.

In the letter, Eppolitio claims he was wrongly imprisoned because of sensationalized media reports surrounding the case.

Both Eppolito and Stephen Caracappa were found guilty of being involved in eight mob-related murders while working for the NYPD.

The judge then threw out the convictions, citing that the statute of limitations had expired. However, he denied them bail, calling them dangerous criminals and flight risks.

The two currently remain in solitary confinement while they await a re-trial on drug and money laundering charges.
