Kalinak: Disgraceful Information on Kopcik Spread by Mafia

Published by at 12:42 am under Slovakia

Bratislava — Interior Minister Robert Kalinak said on Friday at the parliamentary defence and security committee that he is convinced that there is too great a significance being attached to the issue of the illegal sale of an automatic rifle by the Police Forces First Vice-president Michal Kopcik.

Kalinak said that this disgraceful information about Kopcik is being spread by the Mafia. That’s because, according to Kalinak, the police are inflicting serious damage to organised crime networks.

“No member of the Mafia will manage personnel policy at the Interior Ministry,” said Kalinak, adding that this issue is political theatre without relevant arguments.

General Prosecutor Dobroslav Trnka, who also attended the committee meeting, said there are no legal proceedings underway against Kopcik, while there is a file on Ernest Simonic, against whom Kopcik pressed charges of slander. Simonic handed over the information on the Kopcik’s alleged illegal rifle sale to SME daily. According to Simonic, Kopcik also illegally secured firearms for a shooting club in which he was active.
