Jailed Mafia bosses to lose TV sets and access to local papers

Published by mafia-news.com at 2:19 pm under Italy

Caserta — Jailed Neapolitan Mafia boss Francesco Schiavone from the powerful Casalesi clan will be denied a TV set in his cell and all high-security Mafia prisoners will be prevented from reading newspapers from the regions in which their criminal organisations operate, the Il Napoli-E Polis daily reports.

The new rules are contained in a bill tabled by Italy’s Justice Minister Angelino Alfano which is intended to make the Mafia prisoners’ daily regime harsher and stop them gleaning useful information on events in the areas they control.

The measures will apply to prisoners from the Neapolitan Mafia or Camorra, whose stronghold is the Campania region surrounding Naples, the ‘Ndrangheta in the neighbouring southern region of Calabria, and the Sacra Corona Unita from the Puglia region.
