Don Giuseppe Baldinucci arrives in Italy

Published by at 3:24 pm under Italy

Rome — After an 11 year worldwide search, Giuseppe Baldinucci, a 65 year old mafia boss from Palermo, has just arrived back in Italy from the United States escorted by US Immigration Service officials and handed over to the Rome branch of Interpol and the Italian police.

A headline player in Cosa Nostra and hailing from the ‘Vitale’ family of Partinico, he will have to serve an 8 year sentence in solitary confinement handed down to him by the Palermo Court of Appeal for the crime of mafia association.

According to mafia co-operators, in 1996 Baldinucci assisted in the hiding of Giovanni Brusca and gained a role in the mafia organisation operating between Italy and the USA in the “Pizza Connection” operation alongside other noted criminals Filippo Casamento and Salvatore Greco.

The boss’ return to Italy was made possible thanks to international collaboration, long established in Italy, between the police forces of the US and Italy and the Rome branch of Interpol – an alliance which has also made it possible to bring to conclusion several important investigations against mafia families operating in Sicily and abroad.
