Contract on British Mafia wife
A BRITISH housewife is the Mafia’s top murder target — because they fear she is about to spill the beans on their criminal empire.
Ann Hathaway, 44, has already offered to admit laundering cash and collecting protection money for her jailed Sicilian godfather husband Antonio Rinzivillo.
She hopes it will cut her likely sentence from 24 years to just six.
But the Mob has put out a contract on Manchester-born Hathaway to stop her turning supergrass and putting dozens of them behind bars.
She was arrested in Britain and flown to the Mafia heartland of Sicily under armed guard last month.
Hathaway is in the top-security wing at Agrigento jail — and is being watched 24 hours a day.
An Italian police source said: “We are not talking about an ordinary housewife sitting at home doing the chores.”
Her guilty plea offer is being considered. But so far she has refused to break the Mafia code of silence in return for lifelong protection.
A prosecution source said: “We want information on the clan and its members but she is being tough.”
Hathaway’s husband is serving life for murder. His gang fought a bloody turf war over drugs in which more than 120 people died.
She returned to live in the Middleton area of Manchester with her two daughters about 15 months ago.
