‘I love him to death’ says Mafia boss wife

THE Manchester wife of a Mafia boss jailed in Italy for murder, drugs trafficking and extortion has said she ‘loves him to death’.

Ann Hathaway (pictured), 44, from Middleton, said it was ‘love at first sight’ when she met Antonio ‘Uncle Tony’ Rinzivillo while working as a dancer in 1979. They have two daughters but he was jailed for 30 years in 2001. Continue Reading »

Alleged ‘godfather’ of Mafia in Montreal sentenced to 10 years

CBC News - Vito Rizzuto, considered the godfather of the Mafia in Montreal, was sentenced Friday to 10 years in prison for his role in the murders of three alleged gang leaders.

Two men who police say are well-placed members of the Rizzuto criminal organization - one based in Montreal and the other in Rome - spoke on the telephone many times over several months about the arrest of Rizzuto at his Montreal mansion in 2004, according to transcripts of calls secretly monitored by police. Nigel Jones reviews The Mafia at War by Tim Newark - The two things that almost everyone once knew about Italy’s Fascist dictator, Benito Mussolini, were that he made Italian trains run on time, and that he, uniquely among Italian rulers, successfully, if temporarily, crushed the Sicilian Mafia. Never forgetting a slight, the Mob, so the legend goes, ate their revenge cold years later when they handed over their Sicilian heartland without a shot being fired, lock, stock, and non-smoking barrel to the invading Allies.

Not having investigated Italian railway timetables between 1922-43 I cannot report on the veracity of the first claim, but Tim Newark has exhaustively examined the second, and establishes beyond doubt that any notion that it was the Mob that won Sicily for the Allies is a myth. Continue Reading »

Alleged Mafia boss found hiding in Britain

PRESTON, England, May 18 (UPI) — British authorities arrested a man they allege is a Mafia boss who traveled to England to avoid a clash between rival mob families in Italy.
