15 Mafia suspects arrested in Sicily
Catania — Paramilitary police on Tuesday arrested 15 people suspected of belonging to a local Mafia clan operating in the northeastern Sicilian city of Catania and surrounding area.
All the suspects arrested are accused of Mafia association aimed at extortion, drugs trafficking and carrying and stockpiling illegal weapons and ammunition.
The clan had for two years been extorting ‘protection money’ from a northern Italian garbage collection firm operating locally, as well as from beauty clinics and car dealers.
Among those arrested in the operation, dubbed ‘Trash’, was alleged clan boss Francesco Montagno Bozzone, who had links to the Catanian Mazzei-Carcagnusi family and shared with it control of an extortion and drug trafficking racket in the province.
